Eric Childress, Senior Product Support Specialist, Collections and Technical Services Division, OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc. An experienced non-print and electronic resource cataloger, Eric Childress is a recognized expert on non-print cataloging and has been active in national and international cataloging standards efforts for both non-print and electronic resources. His activities include chairing the Program for Cooperative Catalogings (PCC) Core Bibliographic Record for Audiovisual Materials Task Group, serving as a member of the PCC Core Bibliographic Record for Computer Files Task Group, and he was a member of the CC:DA task group that prepared the Guidelines for Bibliographic Description of Interactive Multimedia (Chicago: ALA Editions, 1994). Eric is the owner of the EMEDIA (Electronic Media Resources in Libraries) listserve, serves on the editorial board of The Journal of Internet Cataloging, and has published in several professional journals including most recently an article in the VRA Bulletin on library cataloging standards for visual resources.
Erik Jul, Associate Director, The OCLC Institute. A writer and classical studies scholar and soon-to-be M.B.A., Erik Jul spearheaded a pioneering U. S. Department of Education-funded research effort on cataloging Internet resources that led to the building of the OCLC InterCat database, a project generally recognized as instrumental in advancing our knowledge of how well existing cataloging standards may be applied to Internet resources. He has become a widely known and respected expert as well as frequent guest lecturer on the application of library cataloging standards and technology to bibliographic control of networked information resources. Erik is the author of many articles for professional journals including a recent article on cataloging Internet resources in JICs sister publication, Cataloging and Classification Quarterly, and he serves on the editorial boards of The Journal of Internet Cataloging, Information Technology and Libraries, and LIBRES. A member of the original PURL (Persistent Uniform Resource Locator) design team, Erik also serves as listowner for the INTERCAT listserve. With his recent appointment as Associate Director for the newly created OCLC Institute, Erik will be directly involved in planning OCLC Institute continuing education programming and Institute conferences for a global audience of information professionals.
Eric Miller, Associate Research Scientist, The OCLC Office of Research, OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc. Eric Miller has degrees in computer science engineering, mathematics, and natural resources and is in the process of completing a Ph.D. in Geography (specialty: Geographic Information Systems). A leading authority in the emerging field of geoinformatics, Eric was a member of the original PURL design and development teams, and from the start has been and continues to be a key player in the Dublin Core (DC) standard and the ongoing global series of DC-related metadata standards-setting conferences. Active with both the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the World Wide Web (W3C) Consortium, Eric serves on the IETF Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) Working Group, and W3C HTML Working Group, and as co-chair of the W3C Resource Description Framework (RDF, formerly known as PICS) Working Group that is developing the international RDF standard for associating metadata with Internet resources.
